Hired Law firm 2020-2022Very unprofessional. She does not return calls nor have contact with her clients in custody until the day of court. Crucial evidence was lost in my sons case because she did not take pictures of assault mark on him. She doesn’t not seem like she has the best interest in her clients whatsoever.

Hired Law firm 2019I gave Ms. Major a large retainer for 2 separate legal issues my son was trying to resolve. We never received an itemized list of her hours she worked/traveled, nor any refund for over payment. I’ve worked with other lawyers in the past and this was a first for me. *Ms. Major came to court looking like she slept in her clothes. (Her office was not clean either, in fact it was filthy. (That alone should of told me not to hire her.) While in court, she offered up information on my sons finances which the judge did not ask for nor did he need to know. (we were paying his attorney fees at the time.) This could of hurt his custody case. Thankfully it did not. While one issue was resolved, the other was not. We really would of been fine in court on our own for the custody case. **She has not returned our emails or my sons phone calls regarding the second legal issue that she agreed to help my son with. This is very unprofessional. I would not hire her again for anything.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
