Stay far away from this worthless rainbow warrior. He does not believe in clients confidentially laws and will turn you in to authority if it makes him look better. This guy is out for himself and could care less about you.

I am a contract public defender that was assigned to represent you in two cases. You made threats against a police officer and a business. Based on the totality of the circumstances, I believed there was a reasonable certainty that you would act on those threats which would result in death or substantial bodily injury. Rule of Professional Conduct 1.6(b)(1) states: "A lawyer to the extent the lawyer reasonably believes necessary: shall reveal information relating to the representation of a client to prevent reasonably certain death or substantial bodily harm[.]" I was required by law to make the disclosure that I did. If I was placed in the same position again, I would do it again. I fully understand why you did not want me to reveal those threats. But my compliance with legal requirements does not mean the value or quality of my services was poor or that I lacked professional competence. If anything, it demonstrates that I understand the law and will comply with the law even when it comes at a personal cost (i.e. vindictive, spurious online reviews). I wish you the best moving forward with your new lawyer on those matters which I formerly represented you on. This response contains information related to the representation, which would ordinarily be required to remain confidential. However, a lawyer is permitted to disclose information related to the representation to "establish a defense on behalf of the lawyer in a controversy between the lawyer and the client[.]" RPC 1.6(b)(5).

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
