Firm Information

Overview

Founded in 1975 as a general practice law firm by Mike Everett, Everett Family Law was originally anchored on the needs of the people in Mike’s local farming community and primarily addressed the family needs of his friends and neighbors. Our firm has grown to provide legal services in a broad range of areas, including criminal defense, divorce and the full scope of family law. We serve clients throughout central Washington, including Yakima and the Tri-Cities of Kennewick, Pasco and Richland.

We are a father and son law practice dedicated to serving the community in which we were both born and raised. With over 60 years of blended experience, Michael L. “Mike” Everett and Tyler Everett combine their skills, advocacy and dedication to accurately identify your legal issues and develop appropriate, cost-effective solutions. We understand the difficult situations you may be facing and strive to remain attentive, supportive and available to answer questions along the way. We are small enough to make sure that every single client is important to us. We are experienced enough to have argued cases in front of the State Supreme Court and have had a hand in changing state law. We are ready to address your litigation needs, protecting your best interests as we navigate the court system.

We take the time to identify your key issues and focus on those most important to you.

  • Divorce
  • Child custody and support
  • Domestic partnerships
  • Parentage
  • Division of property
  • Domestic violence

At Everett Family Law, we are not afraid to go to trial to defend our clients from criminal charges. Having represented hundreds of criminal defense cases both in and out of court, our team knows how to build and execute a strong legal defense. Whether you are facing accusations of domestic violence, traffic violations, violent crimes or drunk driving, we can help you fight your charges.

We understand how serious even minor charges can be on your livelihood. We represent clients for both misdemeanors and felonies, employing a tailored approach to each cased based on the unique factors at hand. Once we have thoroughly examined every facet of the situation and reviewed the facts, we then start building the strongest legal defense possible.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
