Attorney Information

Overview

Samantha is an experienced general counsel attorney with a litigation background and a passion for service and advocacy. While still in law school, Sam clerked for two judges in the 17th Judicial Circuit of Illinois and worked for the Winnebago County Prosecutor’s office as a legal intern. Sam started her career as an attorney in general civil litigation, but has focused her practice on community association law exclusively since 2016. Sam has appeared in the superior courts of most Washington counties, Washington Appellate Courts, and the Washington State Supreme Court.

Sam has served on the board for numerous non-profit organizations, including the City/County Planning Department for Belvidere, Illinois; the Boone County Council on Aging; a City Finance Committee, and the WSCAI Made for Manager’s Day Committee, to name a few. She has also served as an elected Alderman on the Belvidere City Council. In these positions, Sam acquired valuable first-hand experience in cooperatively managing non-profit organizations. Sam’s community involvement has provided her with the opportunity to refine her negotiation skills, rendering her well-equipped to resolve disputes without litigation.

Sam’s primary objective as community association general counsel is to find efficient, legal solutions for her clients consistent with her clients’ goals. She prides herself on being a diligent advocate who works hard to find unique and innovative solutions to problems. In addition to resolving community association disputes, Sam’s work involves all aspects of community association law, from assisting clients with maintenance responsibilities, to amending governing documents, to managing and litigating disputes if necessary.

Outside of the office, Sam enjoys teaching, volunteering, traveling, hiking, and spending time with her family and their menagerie of pets.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
