    Consulted Law firm 2022
Hired Eric T. Krening around October 2022 to review my wrongful termination and employment discrimination case. He was recommended to me by a life-long friend. Had much confidence in him. Seemed like a decent professional who was competent. My case was complicated. Events of the termination are actually simple and clear -- the company failed. However, they refused to speak with me. I became suicidal. The termination destroyed my professional reputation and mental health. I was isolated, alone, frustrated ... nobody cared. After lengthy consideration of suicide, my DR suggested I journal my thoughts and write letters to officials. Take action to move forward. I did. The company used comments from my letters to officials to compose a Rule 11 motion for sanctions. This threat scared away my initial attorneys. Working with Eric, I asked to divide the review into two components: the original complaint and defendants' Rule 11 motion. Eric found my complaint had merit and extended me a contract for services. I accepted via email, but wanted to be sure he was informed about the Rule 11. Eric demanded more money. He completed the review -- and then withdrew support. However, Eric failed to inform me that the evidence included in defendants' Rule 11 was unlawful. I told him that I believed it was meritless, but I'm not an attorney. Eric abandoned me. Refused to speak with me further. I continued self-represented as pro se litigant. Continued to research. Learned recently that defendants' evidence was unlawful. I'm not an attorney, but I found this precedent. Eric failed to inform me. His review was flawed. Had he known, he likely would have continued with my case. He walked away. He discouraged me. He left me isolated, frustrated and alone! Recently notified Eric of this legal discovery. He has not responded. Consider this a potential legal malpractice issue. Consider Eric a friend, but friends do not abandon friends. Eric charged me a lot of money. His work appeared to be flawed and lacking competence. I hope to hear from him.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
