Attorney Information

Overview

Garfield R. Jeffers joined the original firm of Hughes & Jeffers in 1966. With the retirement of Joseph Hughes and the passing of Richard Jeffers in 1976, and in subsequent years the addition of new partners, the firm name changed to Jeffers, Danielson, Sonn & Aylward in the early 1980's.

Gar possesses a broad spectrum of experience in the profession. He also served as a part-time U.S. Magistrate from 1971-1974. Gar now devotes a substantial amount of time to serving as a private mediator and arbitrator, as well as representing Douglas Public Utility District and the Wells Hydroelectric Project.

Outside of work, Gar is an avid fly fisherman, bird hunter, skier and world traveler.

“We have grown from three lawyers to 24 in my tenure at the firm. We provide quality representation in most every area of the law. Our firm has great camaraderie amongst its attorneys and staff, which is beneficial to the client when working on complex matters with a team approach.”

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
