Attorney Information
Overview
I received my Bachelors Degree from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse in May of 1993. I graduated from Drake University School of Law in 1997 and chose to move back to the Coulee Region to begin my legal career. In 2012, I decided to open my own law practice and have never regretted it.
Over the years I have developed a specific focus in three major areas of practice – Family Law, Criminal Law. Specializing in these areas puts me in the courtroom a lot, a place where I feel very comfortable. I enjoy the mental and intellectual challenge of litigating, which involves performing under pressure and considerable intellectual focus. My goal is always to provide strong, smart representation for individuals facing divorce and other family law matters. When the pressure is on, clients deserve an experienced, aggressive, and bold advocate to reach their goals. I also understand that many of my clients are new to litigation. I take my role as a counselor and advisor seriously. I fully understand that my clients may experience fear and trepidation. I advise clients based on my experience and knowledge of the law so that they can fully and accurately assess their options before engaging in the high-stakes environments of court hearings and settlement negotiations. I regularly appear before the court in La Crosse County and four other surrounding counties in the Coulee Region. With my experience in the courtrooms around the area for the last 28 years, there is not much I haven’t seen. That translates into intimate knowledge of all the courts in the area and vigorous representation of my clients, often achieving excellent results in the most difficult of circumstances.
On a personal note, I live in Onalaska and enjoy spending time with my family and children. I am the proud father of two adult children and one teenager. Community involvement and giving back is also important to me. I am a member of the State Bar of WI, member of Family Law Division and current board member of that division. I am a member La Crosse County Bar Association; and I have served 25 years as a member, president, and zone chair of Onalaska Lions Club. We enrich our community through servant leadership and our many community projects, one of which is a “All Abilities” Children’s Park in Onalaska. I am currently president of the Onalaska Lions Club.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
