Attorney Information
Overview
Denise R. Wilson is an experienced family law attorney specializing in divorces, custody issues, post-judgment matters, and paternity cases. She is also taking on some elder law cases depending on the issue. She brings a wealth of expertise and a unique perspective to her practice, rooted in her diverse background as an educator, instructional designer, and project manager.
Originally from Maryland, Denise has lived and worked across the country, including Washington, D.C., Albuquerque, N.M., and Chicago, IL, finally putting down roots in Wisconsin since 2015. This broad range of experiences informs her compassionate and results-driven approach to family law.
After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and Master’s Degree in Instructional Design and Technology, dedicating years to teaching and instructional design, Denise’s growing interest in how government policy and the legal system affect individuals led her to pursue a career in law. She earned her JD from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law in 2019, focusing on constitutional law and family law, and she gained hands-on experience assisting clients through Legal Aid Chicago and Loyola’s Health Justice Project.
Since joining Capital Law Group, S.C. (formerly Zerbst & Kluck, S.C.), in August 2021, Denise has built a reputation for her dedication to achieving the best possible outcomes for her clients, even in challenging circumstances. She is licensed to practice in Wisconsin Circuit Courts and the Western District Federal Court.
Denise lives in Stoughton, Wisconsin, with her husband, Andy, a retired tax attorney and computer specialist, and their rescue dog, Maya. In her free time, she focuses on her family, reading, connecting with friends and community, and long walks and playing with her pup.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
