Emily Bell is an associate attorney at Nicholson Goetz & Otis, S.C. While she handles all types of criminal charges, she specializes in defending individuals charged with Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) and related offenses.

Attorney Bell has substantial experience with Wisconsin drunk driving defense and engages in complex OWI litigation, including challenging the validity of traffic stops, searches, and warrants, challenging prior convictions, handling allegations that her clients refused to submit to chemical testing, and litigating administrative matters of driver’s license suspension and revocation. She also has significant knowledge of Wisconsin’s blood and breath testing practices and has advanced training in the administration of roadside sobriety tests.

She dedicates a substantial portion of her practice to mounting a successful defense of individuals accused of serious crimes across the state of Wisconsin, including homicide, weapons charges, domestic violence, disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment of safety, and fraud.

Attorney Bell is a fierce advocate for her clients and is prepared to fight for them in every possible scenario. She has tried dozens of case in front of Wisconsin juries in addition to resolving countless cases via bench trials and pretrial litigation.

As a passionate advocate for criminal justice, she frequently presents at Wisconsin seminars and trainings, including the Wisconsin Public Defender Annual Conference, the Wisconsin State Bar’s Build Your Practice series, the Wisconsin Association for Justice’s summer and winter seminars, and trainings sponsored by The Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee. Based on her expertise, she was asked to be on the faculty of a multi-day workshop where she trained public defenders on how to handle a drunk driving defense cases from start to finish.

Attorney Bell is a Midwesterner through and through. She grew up in Michigan and graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2005 with degrees in philosophy and liberal studies. She moved on to Wisconsin to earn her juris doctorate from Marquette University Law School in 2009. In addition to her legal practice, she is a member of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Civil Rights & Liberties section. When she is not fighting for the rights of others, she enjoys long distance running and attempting to recreate desserts she sees on baking shows.
