Overview

Attorney David Ferguson has a passion for labor and employment law. He represents Unions and employees in organizing, negotiating, mediating, arbitrating, litigating, and providing education in Stewards' Schools. He also represents employees against retaliation for protected concerted activity, such as Union organizing, Union representation, and advocacy for safety and health, wages, hours, and working conditions. David represents employees in all other areas of employment law as well, such as wage theft and non-compete agreements. He also handles partnership and micro business matters.

David earned his Juris Doctorate with a concentration in Labor and Employment from the University of Wisconsin Law School. While in law school he externed the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) where he was responsible for analyzing and drafting final investigative reports and briefs related to unfair labor practices. His responsibilities also included recommending cases for deferral and Non-Board settlements based on General Counsel guidance. His direct advocacy for workers has included everything from claiming tax credits for low-income meatpackers to negotiating settlements for migrant beekeepers.

As a law student, David also gained practical experience through the Unemployment Appeals Clinic and served as a Managing Editor for the Wisconsin International Law Journal. He also externed at Legal Action Wisconsin, where he conducted legal research, prepared tax returns for migrant laborers, victims of financial crimes, and refugees, and helped develop a standardized reference manual on tax concerns for settlements, negotiations, and appeals with the IRS.

Attorney Ferguson's legal experience also extends to the judicial branch. He previously interned for Judge Blanchard of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, where he researched United States and Wisconsin State Constitutional law for appellate opinions. Additionally, he has served as a trial clerk for the United States Tax Court Article I and Special Trial Judges, assisting them in hearing cases during trial sessions around the country.

David grew up in Southeast Michigan, where he was on his high school swim team and developed a love of contemporary American fiction. David served in the Navy at Pearl Harbor and achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. As an undergraduate, he attended Wayne State University and interned for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
