Hired Law firm 2024-2025Jim Parkman is hands down the best criminal defense attorney in Birmingham, AL. He specializes in federal cases and handled our financial crimes matter with total professionalism. It’s rare to find a lawyer with this much experience in federal court who still gives you personal attention. If you’re facing serious allegations like drug trafficking or homicide in Alabama, call Jim Parkman first. He’s the real deal.

Hired Law firm 2021This law firm is crooked. I really believed in Mr. Parkman and his assistant Suzanne but they played me badly. My whole fee on this case was 25,000 dollars and I paid them 17,400. After it was a conflict of interest for him to represent me, he refunded me a little over 8,000 dollars without obtaining a discovery on my case. It was pure robbery. I am located in Dothan and he did not once have to come Dothan. I traveled to Birmingham twice to see him and his assistant. I have reached out to this firm numerous times and asked them for itemization of work performed but they will not respond.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
