You both were amazing and a steady support during this horrible event. You kept cool heads and were always quick to respond with a solid plan to get through whatever was thrown at us. You were right, I am so much better off where I am and have an amazingly bright future ahead of me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything. I couldn’t have fought this battle without your skill and knowledge of the process and system.

Many attorneys and clients will tell you it’s a bad idea to go by online reviews versus word of mouth attorney referrals because one angry or difficult client can ruin a business with one or two not so great reviews. I’ve also heard horror stories of angry exes leaving false reviews of attorneys. While this is often true, I’ve decided to leave a review for those of you who choose to read reviews online. James Padish was referred to me by my coach; she had worked with him a number of times before in various types of cases. She only had wonderful things to say about his many years of expertise as a lawyer and judge. She also mentioned he’s great at prioritizing and seeing the big picture. I definitely agree with her. Jim Padish helped me win a complex international divorce case, and has been excellent in dealing with the high conflict personality of my ex. He’s helped calm many fears I had about the process, and since the beginning I’ve felt like I have a kind and caring uncle looking out for me. His staff has been excellent, friendly and helpful. In particular, Alicia Gallo has been nothing but attentive and is always prompt in her responses.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
