Well technically Ned isn't my lawyer, but I'm still paying 100% of his bill πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’° so I feel I have room to comment lol. 🚨Ned showed up to court late, covered in crumbs, lint, and hair, having no idea what was going on. Since then he's been padding my wife's (my) bill continuously, been completely lame in all communication, and as another lawyer commented: "looks like he just doesn't care."πŸ—Ώ I'll post the content of Ned's emails directly in this comment with updates if he ever replies βŒ› πŸ“’ Update #1: reported Ned to California State Bar Ethics Hotline for Bill Padding πŸš“

Worst consultation ever! He couldn't wait to get me off the phone. And based on his response I was considering hiring him for a potential legal case but he wasn't interested in what he could do for me in the future just wanted to get me off the phone. Steer clear

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured β€” hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
