    Hired Attorney 2018-2019
Ms. Swift charged me $65,000 to finish some outstanding issues remaining after 10 years of divorce court and got absolutely nothing accomplished for those monies spent. She was retiring and failed to mention this to me. She pushed me off onto her "associate" saying that she was too busy to give my case her full attention and besides, "I hired her law firm and not her specifically" (BAIT AND SWITCH, after I had already paid the retainer), she then charged me $415/hour for him and then charged me $450/hour for her to manage her associate attorney.... seriously? $865/hour? My money went fast! She needed to soak all the monies she could get out of me to support all her husband's crazy projects in the desert before she retired. When I hired her, I stressed that there would be absolutely no more delays for my upcoming trial already in progress for 4 years due to delays. What did she do? Delayed my trial anyway and by the time it came about, I was out of money and forced to represent myself, which obviously was not good. She intentionally ran me out of money then fired me because I ran out of money, claiming I was too difficult, because she does everything her way, not caring what the client wants. She had every intention to soak me from the beginning and then retire and was upset at my frustration with her controlling and super expensive changes. Now she is "Helping" people mitigate their divorces. Oh goodness! I heard she was going to IVAMS in her retirement, I guess that didn't work out, she is not good enough for IVAMS. One of my dearest friends warned me not to hire her, but I did anyway. I did not listen to my good friend and I paid dearly for that. My friend told me that she charges a fortune and doesn't get anything actually done, as I found out, that could not be more truthful. She is self absorbed and does not care about her clients at all. Sadly, She doesn't listen to her clients either. I asked her to please consult with me when allocating resources for specific issues. I had a lot of court ordered issues that needed to be completed by my ex-husband who was not being cooperative and needed to make sure I would have enough money to get all those issues addressed. She responded "I WILL NOT BE MICROMANAGED", so she just went about spending my money on the issues she wanted to work on and unfortunately absolutely nothing got done. Not one single one of my issues was resolved before I ran out of money. $65,000 and nothing accomplished. She took all my money and retired, or so I thought. Apparently she sold what was left of her business to another attorney. I save the "C" word for special circumstances and she absolutely qualifies for the "C" word. DO NOT HIRE THIS WOMAN FOR ANYTHING. I wouldn't hire her to walk my dog. You will be broke and have nothing accomplished and be like me, trying to handle my issues on my own and finally taking out a HELOC against my home to pay for another attorney to actually get my issues resolved. I'm sorry that I ever met this woman. Super Lawyer? Her ratings have since plummeted to nothing noticeable, how is she still claiming to be a "Super Lawyer" in 2024? She WILL screw you. You have been warned!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
