Attorney Information

Overview

Jesse S. Gill joined the Family Law Group, Inc. as an attorney with a focus in Family Law, Juvenile Dependency, and Probate Law.

Jesse is licensed to practice law in California (State Court) as well as the Northern & Central Districts of California (Federal Court). He completed his undergraduate education with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from UC Irvine in Biomedical Engineering where he received Dean's List Honors multiple times for academic excellence. Jesse then attended the Santa Clara University, School of Law. There, he received the Emery Scholarship & High Tech Award for academic excellence. In law school, Jesse interned at the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office. Since then, in his practice, he has successfully received multiple reversals on appeal in criminal cases in Contra Costa, Santa Clara, and Sonoma Counties based on violations of individuals’ constitutional rights.

Prior to joining the Family Law Group, Inc., Jesse worked at a boutique east bay law firm for over a decade. During that time, Jesse has worked on hundreds of cases, successfully representing clients in Family, Juvenile, Probate, Criminal, Administrative & Civil Law from the inception of a case all the way through the appellate process. Jesse has engaged in hundreds of hearings and Court trials in many different counties within the state of California.

Jesse approaches legal services in a holistic manner, providing representation in multiple areas of the law, particularly when child custody and visitation matters give way to criminal, juvenile (CPS), family, and probate law investigations and filings. Having a breadth of knowledge in all aspects of these laws has helped Jesse provide ultimate representation when there are potentially several bodies of law, investigating agencies, and multiple branches of Court involved in a given case.

Jesse has represented clients in all matters related to Family Law child custody & visitation matters, including the filing of ex parte orders, requests for order shortening time, and general requests for orders. He has filed and defended against dozens of requests for restraining order. He has also represented clients and assisted them in navigating child custody, psychological, and substance abuse evaluations. Jesse has worked with several clients to receive Custody Evaluators, Parenting Coordinators and Mediators in efforts to reduce litigation and assist families in active and productive problem-solving efforts. Jesse has also assisted families in lesser known litigated issues such as grandparent visitation and sibling visitation.

Jesse has engaged in and successfully tried several probate cases, including establishing emergency, temporary and full guardianship as well as modification of guardianship (including visitation orders) and termination of guardianship proceedings.

In the niche areas of dependency law, Jesse has represented parents, family members, caregivers, and de facto parents through the Juvenile Dependency process. He has engaged with clients in pre-dependency investigations with the Department of Children and Family Services and represented clients through the preliminary stages of the dependency process, from Detention and through Jurisdiction and Disposition hearings. Thereafter Jesse has managed and successfully represented clients through family reunification and family maintenance hearings, with an acute knowledge of what is required at 6, 12, 18, & 24 month review hearings. Additionally, Jesse has drafted several writs and appeals seeking to vindicate parental rights post-termination. Jesse has received mandatory training required by the California Rules of Court and has continued to training and education to practice Juvenile Dependency law and to be abreast of the ever-changing case law.

Jesse is also a member of the Contra Costa County Bar Association & the Phi Alpha Delta Law Community.

When not in court or in the office, Jesse enjoys spending time with his family and friends, going for hikes, playing golf, and working out.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
