Hired Attorney 1990-1993Jane Marpet was my court appointed attorney many many years ago over 20 years ago probably more than that. She is the best public defender I have met in my life today. I am 58 years old and I still remember her. I still remember her name I still remember how hard she worked on my case at every turn if I needed something done or adjusted, she did it or she made a motion for it she’s so good that everything I requested she was able to get done. I have a lot of respect and nothing but sincere great things to say about her. I just almost wanna weep when I think about her. I think I remember sending her like a Christmas card or something after my court date today I live in the state of Texas, but something just told me to look her up. I can’t even think of the Minh great words I would love to say about her because there’s so many but she made such an impression on me. I will never forget her. I don’t even remember what year it was who the judge was who the prosecutor was or any of that but her I do in every so many years I think about her and I look her up and see what she’s doing so kudos to Miss Marpet for serving the Los Angeles County Public defenders office thank you thank you and thank you

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
