Our accident happened on a Sunday. I had never been in a accident before and did not know what to do. We called Catherine's office thinking no one would answer (Sunday evening), but she did! She answered our million questions. Reyna, her assistant kept us updated and would call to check on us. They also helped us with our vehicle claim and personal items that we lost during this accident. They really do go above and beyond for their clients.

Ms. Lerer is a wonderful, caring, understanding, compassionate, professional human being. She takes the time to listen to all your concerns and she answers all you questions. Every time I call her office for status, either her or her staff are fully aware of the details to my case. Someone will always help! I full heartedly recommended Ms. Lerer to all my family and friends.

I am posting this for my mother, who was hit be a left turning car while crossing the street in downtown Long Beach. She broke her hip and had to have surgery. She will be recuperating from this injury for a long time. We thought we wouldn't need to hire her an attorney because it was obvious this guy was at fault. But the insurance company was impossible to deal with. They kept calling my mom and asking her to give a statement and to sign documents for them. We didn't trust them. That's when we called the lawyer. Catherine and Dan got on the phone right away and answered all of our questions. They made us feel instantly comfortable and confident that they were the right lawyers for my mom. We met with them the next day and hired the firm. The lawyers did an excellent job for my mom. Thank you attorneys Dan and Catherine. - Posted on behalf of A.Juarez

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
