I have worked with Mr Cottrell as a wit, first for my husband’s case and now, unfortunately for my daughter’s case. I have found him to be professional and prepared, about the most you can expect in this line of work. However, beyond this, he seems to be a caring and compassionate advocate for his clients. I’m would recommend him to others. He’ll honestly tell you if your case has merit and work with you if there is a question about that.

Chuck has been with me since the start of my disability claim and was the first to call me when I was finally approved. He has been persistent and determined, and has followed through with me even when anxiety had me hiding under my bed and avoiding phone calls. He has never faltered in his support of me in a way that made me feel like I was not just a job, but a client who deserved his attention and respect. Applying for disability can feel overwhelming, confusing, and frightening - Chuck managed my case and me through every step. I not only WOULD recommend Chuck to my disabled friends, I have given them his number. If you live in Napa County and are thinking about applying for disability, contact Cottrell Law immediately. You won't regret it.

I tried to work with Chuck Cottrell for a disability claim. He proved incompetent at every turn. He regularly had factual and grammatical errors in filings. He failed to follow up on issues unless I was blowing up his email and phone. I am 29 months into the process and still don't have a correct filing. At every step he has made the process worse and us really ableist. I would have been better off hiring a student st the local community college to do the leg work. At this point I have filed a complaint with the Bar.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
