Verified ClientConsulted Law firm 2010-2023I am a family therapist in North Orange County since 1991. My clients have needed recommendations for an excellant family law attorney through the years. I have had the pleasure to speak with many attorneys; however, it was not until I spoke with and have since met with Matthew Buttacavoli with Minyard Morris law firm in Newport Beach, California, that he became the only family law attorney I refer my clients to. I know they will receive exceptional legal advice and guidance during difficult times. If you are searching for a compassionate, ethical, and knowledgeable family law attorney, I can not express enough that Mr. Buttacavoli is whom I recommend. My clients will inform me that Mr. Buttacavoli is quite compassionate with them, truly understanding the emotional difficulty they are experiencing. They also speak of the exceptional ethical and moral character he possesses. I have also found Mr. Buttacavoli"s generosity to be a resource to me in allowing me to contact him whenever I need other legal resources for my clients.

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2022I am truly grateful to have been referred to Mark Minyard from my business attorney whos’ words held true, “Mark Minyard in the best”. In my professional business and personal experience, this was one of the best decisions that I ever made for a life changing event. Mark Minyard provided exceptional legal advice and defined the expectations up front and his depth of knowledge is unparalleled. Mark strategized with me on how to handle the process with attention to detail and all of his recommendations where spot on correct which ultimately resulted in favorable settlement. Mark also showed a very personal and compassionate side while being supportive and responsive while being diligent on my behalf the entire engagement. I also want to give prompts to Michelle Ralph who was also instrumental in settling my divorce. I would highly recommend this firm for anyone going through a divorce for Mark Minyard is truly a difference maker. It’s amazing how much you learn when going through the divorce process, so I consider myself very fortunate to have been represented by literally the best in the business.

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2016-2022I have had the good fortune and assurance to have had Mr.Jonathan Little at Minyard/Morris represent me as my attorney on more than one occasion. He is above and beyond the most thorough, ethical and capable attorney one could hope for. His knowledge of the law and compassion for all parties involved, separate him from the rest in a very contentious field.

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2020-2022Before working with Matthew Buttacavoli, I'd attempted to settle my divorce with a collaborative attorney. After 5 months with no temporary support in place my collaborative attorney directed me to hire a litigator. From my initial phone call and meeting with Matthew, it was clear that he understood the dynamics of working with high-conflict individuals. Matthew secured temporary support within 6 weeks. He exceeded the bleak prognostications of my first attorney who stated that since my spouse was at retirement age, when he stopped working I would no longer be able to collect spousal support. However, since my spouse had a significant retirement account to draw from Matthew was able to secure spousal support for me for 11 additional years until I reached age 65. I'd left the workforce to be a stay-at-home mom for 20 years and Matthew made sure that I was set up for success going forward. I'm very content with my settlement and incredibly grateful for Matthew's wise expertise that was desperately needed during the emotional rollercoaster of divorce. Helpful tip: One way to minimize billable hours is to email as many issues as possible rather than initiate conversations over the phone.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
