    Consulted Attorney 2017-2019
Julie Jones and Devon Anderson were not my attorney, they were the attorney representing my boyfriend's ex-wife. They represented his ex-wife for several years and they let their client rack up a bill of $30k. At some point, they probably realized she would find a way to stiff them on her bill. Ms. Jones thought she we get cute and find another way to get paid. She decided to go after my money, the girlfriend of the petitioner. I wasn't even part of the divorce proceedings. Julie Jones kept my boyfriend on the stand for hours asking him questions about my income, what I pay for, and what gifts I have given to him over the years. Julie Jones wanted the Judge to consider my income as part of the petitioner income. The Judge even said her argument was ridiculous and that he couldn't order me to pay her legal fees. Julie Jones client, even had her fight for days to keep her children in private school and told the judge she could afford to pay tuition and all fees associated with private school, yet their client can't afford to pay her legal fees? Their client had money for a New Car, LASIK Eye Surgery, Gastric Bypass Surgery, Private School (public schools in our area are highly rated), and $4k for a trip to Washington D.C., yet their client doesn't have money to pay legal fees owed and Julie Jones wanted ME to pay. Guess what???? Julie's client found a way not to pay legal fees owed and stiffed Julie and Devon by filing for bankruptcy. Julie and Devon just sat back and did nothing, they didn't even challenge the bankruptcy. I even called and emailed Devon informing him that she lied on her filing and that based on her income she can afford to pay her bills. Devon did nothing with this information, I am assuming it's because he is not confident in his abilities, and was afraid to challenge his ex-client. The information that I provided to him has now come to light in their ex-clients filing, and their ex-client had to amend her bankruptcy filing. As of 9/25/2020, their ex-clients shows a net-disposable income of about $1,300 and the amount of debt their ex-client filed to have discharged was about $50K of that $30k is what is owed to Anderson & Jones. With an extra $1,300 a month of available cash, their ex-client should be able to afford to pay her legal fees. I have checked the BK filing website, and to-date, after their ex-client amending her filing, Julie Jones and Devon Anderson are sitting back once again and are not requesting the trustee look into this matter further. I would hope these attorney's think they are wroth what they charge and deserve to get paid. Why would anyone hire an attorney who is willing to get walked all over by an ex-client. Actually, maybe you should hire them and do what their ex-client did, use them and then not pay them. They will likely never go after you! Maybe Devon will actually feel more confident in his ability and go after his ex-client and ask the trustee to look into the matter further. You would think since they worked for it and she can clearly afford to pay that would go after what is owed.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
