Hired Law firm 2014-2015I used Robert Cleek in my divorce, and regret it every single day. I feel that I would have actually done better representing myself. I do not feel that he was effective, timely, or efficient with my legal fees. I noticed that the legal fees were about $8k a month most months even when not much was happening. Interacting with him put an extraordinary amount of stress on me, the client. He missed many deadlines then out of nowhere late in the day demanded that I drop everything and provide forms or updates immediately. Several drafts had so many errors, I wanted to charge HIM for my time to fix them. He didn’t know certain fundamentals: for example, he didn’t know that the mortgage in my name only (the house in both our names) would be treated as community obligation. Three anxious days wondering if my ex was going to swindle me out of half a million. I can’t understand why anybody who has been in family law longer than a minute didn’t already know that, couldn’t look it up in a practice guide, or call a specialist. I asked him repeatedly to get the financials settled, and nothing happened for months. His comments about opposing counsel were offensive (“she looks rode hard and put away wet”) he also implied that our judge was an incompetent or undeserving female. I finally fired him when he absolutely refused to prepare, strategize, or even brief me meaningfully on the bench bar settlement conference.
