Consulted Attorney 2017-2018Very incompetent and uses her immunity from the court as a guardian ad litem to violate your rights. She was appointed by the court by a scumbag attorney that I never hired in the first place. My mother retained this attorney and he proceeded to force a guardian ad litem to appointed in my divorce case. I continually told him I did not want a guardian ad litem appointed. Once she was appointed, I did not hear from her and asked what was going on my divorce since the attorney my mother retained had a settlement agreement in hand and I was ready to accept it. She drove a wedge in my divorce case and would not work with me to agree to the settlement agreement. She was working with my scumbag attorney against me and made up lies to justify her need to be involved. I had issues with the attorney my mother hired and so instead of being the mediator and coming to a resolution, she stretched out my divorce case. Never told me her hourly fee. I refused to pay her so she took me to court. Didn't serve me. Judge awarded her the full amount for her "service" due to her immunity granted by the court. Never provided a bill until the end and then told me she was doing me favor by charging me less than what she normally charges. This lady is desperate and will rob you of everything she can. I had to explain to her the settlement agreement since she was clueless as to what I was willing to settle on. In the end, she gave everything to my ex wife, didn't defend me, and bashed me for my continual refusals to work with her since she was coordinating with my scumbag attorney to go against me. She ended up signing off on the same settlement agreement that my attorney had in hand the day he was retained by my mother. My rights were violated and this should be illegal.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
