Overview

John H. Howard represents individuals throughout the nation who have been severely harmed by the wrongful conduct of others. Although based in Ventura County, California, Mr. Howard has litigated complex injury cases coast to coast involving wrongful death, sexual abuse, automobile, bus and motorcycle accidents, bicycle safety, premises liability, and discrimination based on age, sex or religion. Mr. Howard has successfully pursued mass tort litigation representing clients in wildfire cases such as the Thomas, Woolsey, and Maria fires, as well as train collisions such as the Chatsworth Amtrak collision, and other disasters, including the California 200 race tragedy that killed and injured dozens of people.

Over the years, John, and his team, have resolved a multitude of cases that have resulted in clients receiving significant financial compensation to cover their losses and get their lives back on track. Examples of some of the publicized judgments include a sum amounting to $50 million for a campus police abuse case and over $22 million for an injury caused due to the improper maintenance of public property.

In 2021 the California Chapter of The American Board of Trial Advocates honored John with its prestigious Trial Lawyer of the Year Award. In addition, Mr. Howard has been recognized by the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association as its Trial Lawyer of the Year on more than one occasion, and by the local ABOTA Chapter covering San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura with its Civility Award. Further, the Ventura County Bar Association recognized John for his pro bono work on behalf of people who can't afford legal representation. He is also AV Preeminent peer-review rated, *the highest rating, through Martindale-Hubbell, and he holds a "Superb" rating on Avvo.

Mr. Howard has built a strong reputation throughout the past four decades and has made a substantial impact in the community by representing plaintiffs who have been adversely impacted by the negligent actions of others.

Securing more than 20 jury verdicts exceeding seven figures or more, Mr. Howard has earned membership in the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He is also a veteran who served in the United States Navy Reserve for over a decade, and he contributes a significant part of his time and efforts toward community-oriented services. He is a former President of the Ventura County Bar Association, the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association and the California Coast Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
