Firm Information

Overview

Litigation is not the only option for individuals facing family crisis. Our goal is to resolve conflict thoughtfully, transparently, and respectfully, without litigation. This approach empowers the individual clients to make decisions that best reflect their interests and objectives. We work from mediation and collaborative practice models to address the core issues in each case and to reach mutually agreed upon settlements that endure.

Attorney Jill White is a seasoned family law practitioner who, after many years in a family law litigation firm, came to realize that traditional, adversarial methods of dealing with family breakdown often result in unnecessary financial expenditures and exacerbated emotional suffering for the clients.

As a member of Collaborative Council of the Redwood Empire (CCRE) and International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), Jill works closely with a trusted network of other family law practitioners, mental health professionals, including child specialists, and financial experts to promote holistic and respectful conflict resolution. In collaborative cases, each participant (party) is represented by an attorney while other professional team members, also trained in both mediation and collaborative practice, provide particular expertise in their respective areas. This results in a highly structured process that progresses efficiently toward a workable settlement.

Another option for clients who want to stay in charge of legal decisions that will affect their future, but need help, is mediation. The traditional model involves a single neutral mediator while a more progressive approach pairs two neutral mediators, usually one attorney and one mental health professional. Mediation is a cost-effective model that, unlike litigation, leaves room to address emotional conflicts often intertwined with resolving legal conflict. Jill participates in an ongoing study group with other integrative mediators dedicated to providing a supportive approach to dispute resolution.

Jill was an excellent guide through some fairly miserable terrain. I can highly recommend her collaborative divorce services. I found her to be extremely knowledgeable, professional, and personable, with a fair hourly rate for the area. She is also not one to "nickel and dime" as many other attorney's do. The fact that she has a good relationship with many other counsel in the area was very beneficial and helped expedite the whole process - which helped significantly with the emotional and financial toll.

Jill White provided us with mediation through the legal separation process. Her empathy and constant attention to detail coupled with immediate response resulted in us completing from start to receipt of a legal seperation in an unheard of 96 days. Due our unbelievable experience, I have referred 2 friends. One worked through a very difficult collaberative divorce that was made easier for all participents by Ms. White's concern for a fair and equiable outcome. In the second she served as a consulting attorney for one party and expertly guided the divorce process. I whole heartly appreciate Ms. White commitment to keepoing parties out of court and highly recomment her.

Jill was very informative and professional, she helped me with the process of understanding our prenup and assisted in rewriting portions so it felt fair and equitable. I highly recommend Jill to anyone needing family law assistance.

Jill was not good at returning correspondence or working in a timely and effective manner. We received very little output for the thousands of dollars we spent. She was not specific in her billing and her invoicing was hard to understand. I feel she overcharged us for what little service she provided.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
