Consulted Attorney 2024This guy started texting me out of no-where about my trademark. Saying he wanted all my info and lots of money to resubmit my trademark. Then when I challenged him to answer some questions to be sure he was not scamming me, he ends up threatening me to pull my trademark so he can help another applicant to use it. Said he's coming after me and that I should cease and desist using my business and trademark or he's going to make life bad for me. Unfortunately, I told him my son passed away and I did not have the funds to give him what he wanted, at some point he told me I should be dead and brought up something about "Diddy" ??? Sending me threatening texts after I told him numerous times to stop texting and harassing me. I did tell him he and his client have no rights to my company or my trademark. The guy seems unstable and very nasty. I would not recommend him as a human being much less an attorney.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
