Hired Attorney 2022-2024Marty is incredibly intelligent and he has been compassionate towards my situation. He was the only attorney who immediately understood my complex real estate issue within 5 minutes on the telephone. Other attorneys kept focusing on details which were irrelevant and issues which took the least amount of knowledge. Marty was excellent at seeing the major issue and not going down rabbit holes which were secondary or tertiary to the case. As far as Real Estate goes, Marty is solid. Also, while other attorneys didn’t seem to like my nervous energy, frankly Marty wasn’t bothered by it and actually seemed to chuckle it off. Beyond this, at the time I needed him, he said that while I had a case, he was in the middle of a trial and my case was time sensitive. He promised to take it if I hadn’t found an attorney and if his trial was postponed. In the meantime he helped me (FOR FREE) write a letter to the title company and diligently would keep up with me and tell me what their responses meant. He spent many hours trying to mentor me so I could preserve my rights while I was looking for an attorney. He finally told me he couldn’t take it because his trial was going forward. Devastated and still unable to find an attorney, a month later we reached out again and he actually took the case and immediately went into action. He’s a solid attorney and human being. I’m grateful to him.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
