R.J. is an exceptional Attorney that any client would be blessed to retain. His decades of dedicated experience speak for themselves, but it's his unyielding stance against opposing council yet genuine empathetic temperament toward his clients that stands out. He devotes himself fully, such that you feel like you are his one and only case. R.J. takes the time to explain each step in detail, provides insightful perspective and allows for conversation, so that you feel comfortable and informed throughout the entire daunting process. I can't give nearly enough praise nor stars that adequately speak to R.J.'s remarkable abilities and character.

I retained RJ Waldsmith of Abramson, Smith & Waldsmith to represent me in a personal injury matter and was consistently impressed by his professionalism and command of the issues involved. From the outset, he approached the case with careful attention and a clear strategic framework. His communication was direct and measured, and he ensured I was informed at each critical stage of the process. RJ’s thorough preparation, analytical rigor, and effective advocacy were instrumental in achieving a favorable resolution. I valued his judgment and steady guidance throughout and would confidently recommend him to anyone seeking skilled and dependable representation in a personal injury case.

R.J. Waldsmith is an exemplar of a great trial lawyer: smart, kind and professional. He was relentless in prosecuting my personal injury case. I was 19 when a failed LASIK eye surgery ended up damaging the optic nerve of my eyes. Mr. Waldsmith learned the facts of my case, became knowledgeable in the cause of my injury, and fought hard to recover compensation on my behalf. I am truly grateful for the work Mr. Waldsmith and his firm did on my case. The compensation I received allowed me to get back on track, completing my studies at UC Berkeley. We remain friends years after my case was over. Mr. Waldsmith inspired me to pursue a career in law. His partners Bill Smith and Jeff Smith are also great. I highly recommend this firm.

Nina Shapirshteyn is a resolute trial advocate. She has demonstrated time and again that her instincts are solid, and her delivery is spot on. One factor that accounts for her success is her impressive attention to detail while maintaining the ability to see the big picture. In one product case, we tracked down Other Similar Incident victims of the product across the country. Nina conducted depositions in multiple jurisdictions. She was able to argue the relevance of each incident in proving notice and defect on our client's behalf to a successful conclusion. At trial she methodically presents strong evidence with clear and effective visuals and expert testimony. Her extensive trial experience, combined with her time on the San Mateo County bench, makes her an obvious choice for representation.

Overview

With over 100 years of combined experience, the trial lawyers at Abramson Smith Waldsmith LLP, have successfully represented thousands of people who have suffered serious injuries and losses due to negligence or recklessness and have compiled a winning record on behalf of the injured. We are especially proud of the cases we have won that bring fair compensation to our clients and that also result in changes to the law or improvements to safety features that reduce the risk of future injury.

We have earned an excellent reputation in the courts and among our colleagues throughout California, and we receive ninety percent of our referrals from other attorneys. Our partners hold leadership positions in key peer-reviewed organizations, including the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL), the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL), the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), and the International Society of Barristers. We are listed in Best Lawyers in America and in San Francisco Magazine's Super Lawyers issue.

Our attorneys handle the full range of serious personal injury cases, including those involving defective products, dangerous drugs, catastrophic injuries, wrongful death, and litigation against powerful companies and insurance companies intent on minimizing their liability and their losses.

As leaders in the field of electronic case presentation, we regularly offer instruction and guidance to our peers in the use of technology to efficiently display facts and evidence, to highlight discrepancies in testimony, and to clarify complex issues for juries. Your Profile?  Update Now

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
