Firm Information

Overview

The law firm of Bley and Bley was founded in the late 19th century by Joseph Bien. In 1925, Bertrand Adolfo Bley, Joseph's nephew, expanded the firm's practice to include a wide range of legal services. Stephen Bruce Bley joined his father in practice in 1969. Like her father before her, Samantha Bley DeJean joined her father in practice in late 1996. Starting with a solid foundation of legal training, client experience and excellent contacts in the Bay Area legal and business community, the firm's lawyers enjoy over 100 years of combined legal experience.

We operate with a team approach, pairing more than one attorney on most matters. We find that this allows for an appropriate allocation of work and ensures that our clients have an attorney familiar with their case available to them at all times.

Our main source of client referrals are our prior clients and other attorneys. We specialize in high asset and high conflict divorces that have not otherwise resolved through settlement or other alternative dispute resolution options such as Collaborative Divorce and mediation. We also handle a variety of other personal and business litigation matters. We represent a wide range of clients, including captains of industry, local and national celebrities, CEOs and business owners of all sizes. Our firm is AV rated by Martindale Hubble.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
