Attorney Information
Overview
I've been a construction and real estate attorney since 2015, with a focus on cost-effective litigation and transaction support for clients on a budget. Before law school I worked in commercial real estate as a developer and asset manager on the east coast (where I'm originally from). After the 2009 recession, I worked on my own residential redevelopment projects. Working closely with lawyers on my development projects, I noticed that they always made money on my deals even when I didn't. The attorneys' ability to tell me what I could and couldn't do intrigued me, and I resolved to learn that power for myself. I had always loved California, so I moved here in 2011 for law school.
I graduated from UC Davis School of Law in 2014 with a certificate in Environmental Law and passed the California bar exam on the first try. At the Oakland law firm of Boornazian, Jensen & Garthe I represented general contractors in complex construction defect actions and liability insurance disputes. Later I moved to Silicon Valley for training in real estate law and general litigation at the boutique Los Gatos law firm of Sweeney Mason, LLP. In 2021, I decided to strike out on my own.
My billing philosophy is different than most lawyers. Rather than charge for every paper clip and voicemail, I put my clients to work on tasks that don't need my direct involvement. Also, I generally do not charge for routine status updates and short client calls. That helps keep invoices low. Working from home keeps my overhead low and my hourly rates competitive.
If you want to know a little bit more about me personally, I'm a cat person (see, e.g., the "Our Team" page on my website).

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
