“ZERO STARS” WORST ATTORNEY EVER! Ariel Tello cost me over $400K in the final judgement with my ex! Incompetent beyond compare! Failed to respond to court’s repeated demands for docs. Failed to present my actual income to the judge during discovery resulting in numerous judgments: spousal support, child support, (I have full custody of my child), attorneys fees and sanctions. His continued unresponsiveness to the court’s repeated demand for documents resulted in additional sanctions and financial judgements. He failed to attend an important hearing that rendered me acrimonious, uncooperative, and disrespectful of the court. Over the course of 2 years, he failed to inform me of numerous punitive judgements issued against me. He denied receiving a trust account statement from opposing counsel showing well over $100K in court ordered payments to my ex. The death blow of his ongoing legal malpractice was the court issuing an evidence sanction preventing my new attorney, (yes, I fired him), from arguing virtually any significant issue of my family law case. Thanks to Ariel Tello, I was forced into a judgement that cost me nearly $1M!!! This should be warning enough. With any luck the CA State Bar will take action to prevent others from suffering my same fate. I trusted Mr. Tello to represent my best interests, he failed miserably and kept it from me thinking I would never find out? No way to run a “Professional Law Corporation “He should never be allowed to step foot in a courtroom …EVER! Yes, I am filing a lawsuit against Mr. Tello. BTW, ALL CA attorneys are required by law to carry malpractice insurance. To date and upon written notice, Mr. Tello has failed to demonstrate he has any insurance coverage.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
