Hired Attorney 2025Do Not Hire Nick or Jasmine Johnson or Modern Family Law** I strongly advise against hiring Jasmine Johnson or her firm, Modern Family Law, for any legal representation, especially in family law matters. My experience with her was disastrous, causing significant harm to my family. Jasmine was unresponsive, often taking days to reply, even in emergencies. She failed to file critical court documents, which allowed the opposing party to gain an advantage, putting my children’s custody at risk until our next court date. Her lack of preparation and organization was evident throughout the case—she couldn’t keep track of files, failed to address false statements from the opposing party, and admitted to avoiding communication with the other lawyer because she felt disrespected. Despite court orders granting me access to my youngest child, the opposing party withheld childcare, and Jasmine did nothing to enforce the order or address their contempt of court. She appeared reactive, with no clear strategy, leaving us defenseless. Worse, she pressured me to extend the case, which I believe was solely to increase her billable hours. I paid over $20,000 for services that delivered no results and arguably worsened our situation. When I raised these concerns with Nick, a partner at the firm, he acknowledged Jasmine’s errors but offered no resolution, only suggesting I pay more to continue the case. He was dismissive and ended our call abruptly for another appointment. I have since fired the firm and hired a new attorney who genuinely cares about my family’s needs. In a final display of incompetence, Jasmine texted me about filing a contempt hearing, forgetting her firm had already withdrawn from my case. She later cited this review as a reason for not proceeding, despite initially claiming she had evidence to help my family. This level of disorganization and unprofessionalism is unacceptable. I strongly recommend choosing a smaller, more dedicated firm that will listen to your needs and prioritize your family. I will update this review with text messages from Jasmine as evidence of her negligence and share recommendations for competent attorneys. Avoid Jasmine Johnson and Modern Family Law—they will waste your money and fail to protect your interests.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
