Attorney Information

Overview

I am a Colorado Native and was raised in Boulder County. I am a dedicated criminal defense attorney with six years of experience. Upon graduation from law school, I served as a Judicial Law Clerk for two District Court Judges with a criminal docket. The knowledge I gained from this clerkship has assisted me in understanding how Judges receive and evaluate arguments presented in high-level, complex criminal cases.

After my clerkship, I became an attorney at Sawyer Legal Group and assisted hundreds of clients across the state of Colorado with various matters including, but not limited to, pre-charge representation, pre-trial negotiations and litigation, jury trials, bench trials, sentencing hearings, civil protection order hearings, punitive contempt proceedings, deregistration hearings, and sealing hearings.

I took a brief hiatus from Sawyer Legal Group to provide defense services at the Colorado Public Defender's Office. At the Public Defender's Office, I handled a very high volume of criminal cases with charges ranging from low-level petty offenses and traffic infractions to serious felonies.

These experiences have provided me with a well-rounded understanding of courtroom procedure, judicial decision-making, as well as effective defense strategies and advocacy both inside and outside of the courtroom.

In addition to this experience, it is important to me to bring a certain level of compassion to each of my clients. Each client is experiencing one of the most stressful and overwhelming moments in their life and I approach each case with a certain level of respect, empathy, and honesty. I work hard to ensure that each client is heard, informed, and vigorously represented.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
