Attorney Information

Overview

As a 10 year old, Frank witnessed firsthand the legal consequences a catastrophic injury can cause to a family. When his aunt, at the age of only 36, was severely injured in a head-on car accident, his entire family was overwhelmed for the next 12 years as she lay in a nursing home in a coma, before finally passing away. After experiencing the terrible complications such a situation causes spouses, children, parents and siblings, he made it his goal to develop the legal skills to assist clients to plan appropriately to minimize the emotional turmoil should the worst happen.

Frank focuses his practice in the areas of Estate Planning, Special Needs Planning, Asset Protection Planning, Charitable Planning, Legacy Planning, Medicaid and Public Benefits Planning, Business Planning (including entity formation and succession planning), Estate and Gift Tax Planning, and Estate and Trust Administration and Litigation. He also helps existing clients with Real Estate transactions (including construction law) and Consumer Advocacy issues. He has prepared over 5000 estate plans as an attorney, as well as handling over 975 estate and trust administrations.

Frank has achieved the highest rating for both legal and ethical standards (AV) by the most prestigious lawyer rating firm, Martindale Hubbell for the past four years in a row. He has also been named a prestigious Five Star Wealth Advisor in the top 4% of Estate Planning Attorneys for 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 by 5280 magazine and ColoradoBiz magazine. Frank was also named a SuperLawyer for 2014, 2015 and 2016. For the past four years he has co-authored a book titled, "How to Protect Your Family's Assets From Devastating Nursing Home Costs--Medicaid Secrets", as well as co-authoring the "Planning for Special Needs Children" Chapter in the Colorado Bar Association's Colorado Handbook of Elder Law for the past five years.

Frank has lectured extensively on estate planning to various groups around Colorado, including those associated with Colorado Jumpstart, Great West Life, Denver Community Credit Union, Senior Planning Services, Kaiser Permanente, US West/Qwest, Capital Management Group, the Colorado association of Public Employees, Senior Tax Advisory, AG Edwards, Edward Jones, Wells Fargo, The National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Coors, and numerous churches, temples and labor unions throughout the state. Frank is often asked to speak on television and radio given his broad experience in estate planning. He has taught classes on Estate Planning and Estate/Trust Administration for the Colorado Bar Association, National Business Institute, Front Range Community College and Colorado Mountain College.

Frank is a Colorado native who graduated from Regis Jesuit High School and enjoys spending time with his wife Melissa and young children Zachary, Taylor and Jaden. When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
