Overview
Kevin Mahoney specializes in estate and trust litigation. He has tried cases to judges, juries, and arbitrators, and he has taken and defended more than 1,000 depositions, the vast majority of which were medical or economic experts. He spent several years as a partner at a Denver law firm where he handled medical malpractice and mass tort cases. He obtained several multi-million dollar verdicts against physicians and dentists, including the largest verdict against a dentist in Colorado history [Dosien v. Dorsey]. Kevin now serves as personal counsel to physicians who are defendants in litigation. He has been practicing since 1995 and is licensed in both Colorado and Wyoming. He has been selected as a Colorado Super Lawyer every year since 2009 and has been named as a 5280 Top Lawyer every year since 2015.
Kevin attended college at Duke University where he was a four-year letterman on the varsity lacrosse team. He was chosen to the Atlantic Coast Conference Honor Roll during each of his four years of college. In 1991 he graduated magna cum laude from Duke with a double major in history and political science. He then attended Duke University School of Law, which is one of the top ten law schools in the country. He was a member of the law review at Duke and received the Note of the Year Award in 1994. In 1995, Kevin graduated in the top ten percent of his law school class.
Kevin has been a youth lacrosse coach for fifteen years. He was the head coach for all four of his children’s teams – two sons and two daughters. Kevin has coached dozens of players at the youth and high school level who went on to play Division I lacrosse in college, including more than 20 girls in the high school class of 2024.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2017-2019Norman got van hit on the side walk with his legally blind vision at his eight four years old age and got a broken leg. Friend of ours told us there is a nice gentleman Mr Mahoney can take our case according to his several friends suggestion. Since my husband can't walk and I don't know how to drive also old age, Mr Mahoney come to place to meet and talk about the case. he explained everything so in details, clearly and in the very nice, kind and respectful manner. All of those made us feel so warm, comfortable and confident with him. Things are going on not too smoothly but Mr Mahogany put his efforts one and another, and always let us know what is going on, what methods he takes to solve the problems. So we always have the hope that finally the case will be settled. My husband and I were very satisfied with Mr Mahoney’s wonderful service.. We really appreciated the every thing and all the help Mr Mahogany done for us. Since then we always think Mr Mahoney is a very good and trustworthy lawyer.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2020-2022Kevin Mahoney and the Mahoney Law Firm came highly recommended from a qualified source who is very familiar with various personal injury attorneys in the state. Based upon that recommendation and my own research, I decided to work with Kevin. During what was the most difficult and trying time of my life, I couldn't be any happier with not only the final outcome of the lawsuit, but also the overall process of reaching a settlement. Kevin did an excellent job of communicating and explaining exactly what the plan was and how we'd get there. He is dedicated, hard-working and extremely well versed in PI cases. His expertise made me feel very comfortable and confident throughout this unfortunate situation. Additionally, all of the professional experts he put me in touch with were best in their fields, which gave extra reassurance that I was in good hands in every aspect. Having Kevin represent me was the best decision I ever made. I will be forever grateful for Kevin and his team's hard work.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
