Hired Law firm 2017-2020Attorney Mary Surette was an invaluable asset to me through my family court matters. She is brilliant, tenacious, fair, hard-working and importantly she has the ability to see the big picture in often complex, emotionally-charged matters. Her perspective and counsel has made me a better parent. As long as one has the ability to trust and follow her sound advice, no one going through a family court matter could find better representation then that by Attorney Mary T. Surette. Behind Atty. Surette, is her firm: Reich & Truax. R&T offers a feeling of comfort and home in which there are no barriers of access - it is clear that all staff members in the office are treated with respect and importance. Despite the firm’s relatively small size, I always felt like there was more than one attorney who had my back; I felt like the entire firm was my support system. The firm’s expertise overall is wide in scope, though the practice maintains its family law focus and does not deviate from its core expertise. The individual attorneys’ respective knowledge and experience goes above and beyond that which would be considered strictly family law. These ancillary skills benefit R&T’s clients insofar as family law cases are often both incredibly complex, as well as highly divergent. which require some expertise in other areas of law that often overlap with family law proceedings. I never had to look beyond Reich & Truax to find what my case needed. The attorneys at Reich & Truax are truly exceptional. They care about their clients’ wellness, futures and they all work with determination rarely seen, to achieve positive outcomes for families going through difficult situations. I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Reich & Truax and thank my lucky stars that they represented me from the very beginning of my family matter.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
