DOUGLAS CRANE BROEKER AND ROBERT SWEETAPPLE ARE TWO DISHONEST, UNTRUSTWORTHY AND UNSCRUPULOUS ATTORNEYS. BE AWARE.... They lied to us. They betrayed us. They breached our trust. They collected money from us without doing the job they were hired to do. In November 2021, Sweetapple and Broeker were retained by my husband and me to specifically handle some post-trial procedures on a case brought against us by a con artist who had stolen $1.1 Million Dollars from us after breaching a contract to purchase my husband’s business mortgage banking licenses. Robert Sweetapple and Douglas Broeker were hired specifically by us to undertake the post-trial activities on our case including but not limited to file a 50(B) Motion, request a new trial and file an appeal if necessary. They did not perform the services which they were hired to do and paid approximately $110,000 in legal fees by my husband and me. They failed to competently proceed with the prosecution of our case. During the time of their engagement they did almost nothing in furtherance of our interests, we lost the chance for a retrial and appeal due to their failure to file the appropriate post-trial motions to preserve our case for appeal thereby leaving us without a remedy for relief. Knowing in advance we stood no chance at appeal due to their failure to preserve our issue for appeal, they then neglected our appeal case and missed all crucial deadlines. We, of course, lost the appeal. That was no big surprise to Sweetapple and Broeker. Their failure to preserve our appeal by filing the 50(b) motion and asking for a new trial during those crucial 30 days following the jury verdict failed below the standard of care of attorneys. By failing to properly preserve our issue for appeal after the trial within the allotted time which Robert Sweetapple and Douglas Broeker were hired to do and paid for by us, Robert Sweetapple and Douglas Broeker deprived us from the relief we could have obtained on appeal. We ended up with a $2.5 Million Dollars judgment against us. Robert Sweetapple and Douglas Broeker owed us a duty of care arising from the attorney-client relationship, they failed that duty. Robert Sweetapple and Douglas Broeker not only breached our agreement but they failed to represent us with due care. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE SERVICES OF ATTORNEY ROBERT A. SWEETAPPLE AND DOUGLAS CRANE BROEKER NOR THEIR LAW FIRM SWEETAPPLE BROEKER & VARKAS TO ANYONE. THEY SIMPLY CAN'T BE TRUSTED.

ROBERT A SWEETAPPLE , IS A TOTAL DISGRACE TO HIS PROFESSION. This is a ZERO STAR review by me for attorney Robert Sweetapple based on my personal experience with Robert Sweetapple and his Law Firm Sweetapple, Broeker & Varkas in Boca Raton and Miami Florida. I am still in shock how Robert Sweetapple mishandled our case which we entrusted in his care. Sweetapple betrayed our trust. This pertains to a civil case aka sham lawsuit brought against me and my husband by a lunatic thief and con artist who had defrauded my husband and me. That thief stole $1.1 Million Dollars of our money on a Saturday from our bank account by forging my husband’s signature on fabricated bank documents. When he didn’t get away with the theft, he sued me and my husband. In November 2021, Robert Sweetapple was hired as our attorney to handle the post-trial activities on a civil lawsuit brought against me and my husband by that lunatic thief and con artist. Robert Sweetapple failed to timely proceed with the prosecution of our case after being retained and paid approximately $110K by us. During the time of Sweetapple’s engagement he did almost nothing in furtherance of our interests, we lost the chance for a retrial and appeal due to Robert Sweetapple’s failure to file the appropriate post-trial motions to preserve our case for appeal thereby leaving us without a remedy for relief. Robert Sweetapple neglected our case and missed all crucial deadlines on the case. Robert Sweetapple simply sat on our case for the crucial 30 days following the trial verdict date and did nothing to protect us or preserve the case for appeal. Sweetapple’s failure to preserve our appeal by filing the 50(b) motions and ask for a new trial during those crucial 30 days failed below the standard of care of attorneys and was the proximate cause of our loss of the appeal on January 3, 2024 and ended up with a $2.5 Million Dollars Judgment against us. By failing to properly preserve the issue for appeal after the trial within the allotted time which Robert Sweetapple was hired to do and paid for by us, Robert Sweetapple deprived us from the relief we should have obtained on appeal. Sweetapple owed us a duty of care arising from the attorney-client relationship, he failed that duty and we suffered irreparable damages as a proximate result of that breach. Robert Sweetapple not only breached our agreement but he failed to represent us with due care. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE USES THE SERVICES OF ROBERT SWEETAPPLE AND SWEETAPPLE, BROEKER & VARKAS. Find yourself a decent, ethical and honest attorney to deal with before it’s too late for you.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
