After trying to deal with Bankruptcy on my own via Upsolve, I still had too many questions. I found Chad Van Horn via Thumbtack and he responded instantly. I was able to schedule a free consultation over the phone early the next morning. The review process went smoothly and it took about 15-20 minutes to go over my case. I spoke to other lawyers just for good measure, but in the end decided Chad's professionalism and prices made more sense for me. In addition Artilis my client advocate has been very responsive to all my questions and concerns. I'm Looking forward to working with Chad and his team.

I would highly recommend Chad Van Horn and the Van Horn Law Group. I just successfully completed my Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and every member of this group is wonderful, helpful, professional, and highly knowledgeable. The process went very smoothly, his team operates like a well-oiled machine but also with kindness, empathy, and patience. It was affordable, with a payment plan available. I can't imagine how I could have completed my bankruptcy without this group. Chad Van Horn is a true professional who puts his clients first, sincerely cares, and has impressive expertise in bankruptcy law. When I had questions, the right person for that question was always easy to reach. I really felt hopeless about my financial situation before my initial consultation with Chad Van Horn and now 6 months later I have a new financial start. I wasn't sure it was really possible until I started working with VHLG. Thank you to everyone at VHLG!

My family cannot say enough about the professional, compassionate, and diligent care provided to my elderly father during his bankruptcy case. The helpful and caring attitude of every individual we worked with on the case was beyond expectations. What Mr. Van Horn and his company provide U.S. veterans facing financial difficulties is beyond measure! Their work on behalf of my father allows him to enjoy his remaining years free from the weight of debts. We are immensely grateful and appreciative to everyone from Lorraine and Mr. Van Horn whom we first spoke with, to Christina and the documents team, to Ms. Schwartz, Sonia, Laverne, and Lidia, for all the assistance throughout the process. We are fortunate and blessed to have found them!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
