Got screwed over by Brady BIG TIME!!! I'm very disappointed how Brady handled my case at the end. He was very interested in my case at first and third way through he just became unavailable, unreachable, and uninterested in my case. I tried reaching out so many time before my hearing and he wouldn't get back to me. I literally had to harass his paralegals, Claudia and Cameron, for answers. And then when Brady would call, he would always call me 2 minuets before walking into a meeting. He filed everything last minuet. I live in NYC and had to travel to FL for the hearing. I had to make arrangements for my kids to stay with the babysitter, which is not cheap. Also, arrangements for me to stay at the hotel in FL. Brady reassured me that everything will be ok and I should not worry and that he is working on my case. He lied!!! He failed to have my ex served with the motion prior to hearing. He lied that my motion will still be heard even if not served. He lied that he was preparing for my motion for x amount of hours. I come to court and I sit in front of the judge only to find out that my motion will not be heard because Brady failed to serve it to my ex!!! My ex's motion was hear instead which did me no good. I didn't pay Brady to schedule a hearing for my ex's motion. I paid him money to schedule the hearing for my motion. I had an excellent case with all kinds of proof you can possible have, physical evidence. My other motion was about child support which didn't require service. The judge almost sanctioned Brady for improper filing of the child support motion because he used improper language. I lost child support because of Brady. The judge denied my request for missed child support to be paid back to me because Brady didn't know my case at all. He couldn't ask my ex any questions other than to verify the dates on the documents. Brady didn't even know what was written in those documents and was reading from them while questioning my ex. Which was a joke. I looked and felt like a complete idiot in the court room in front of the judge. Now, not only will I lose my three year old son to my ex who has a mile long criminal record, but I will have very limited access to my child. The only thing Brady was good at and consistent with was taking payments from me. I paid him a lot of money to do the job!!! He failed to do it!!! Instead of being honest with me and push the hearing back like I asked, he lied and stole from me!!! He completely screwed me over!!!! When I tried to reach him after the hearing his paralegal told me he left town. How convenient!!! I see him as a very dishonest, unprofessional and unorganized lawyer. He tried to prepare me for the hearing 1 hour before the hearing. And even then he was just sitting and shuffling all the papers, writing something down, making notes, making himself look busy. But at the hearing he couldn't even argue against my ex's motion. He was never prepared for my motion and probably thought of me as an easy target because I was running against time and was desperate to stop my ex from obtaining my child. It is sad that because of Brady I'll lose my son to an abusive man. I gave Brady the benefit of the doubt for ignoring me and not submitting important motions ahead of time instead of last minuet. Very disappointed and broken up!!! Not only I don't have money to hire another lawyer, it's too late...

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
