Attorney Paulette Hamilton is a true professional. She really cares about the people she helps and handles every situation with compassion and integrity. I would gladly recommend her to friends or anyone looking for a family law attorney they can trust.

Do not waste your time and money. Big liar with poor intentions. If you made the mistake of hiring Paulette, please spend the extra money to switch to a better attorney ASAP!

I hired Ms. Hamilton for my divorce after my husband of 11 years told me we did not need an attorney because we agreed to everything. I was served divorce papers after this and knew that I needed someone to help me. He was very controlling so it did not surprise me that he lied to me about needing an attorney.Ms. Hamilton helped me to negotiate a settlement agreement that was actually FAIR to me and helped me start over. Turns out my husband did not include everything that he had. They also helped me to get my name changed back to my maiden name. They were honest and I am grateful for everyone's help in her office.

Caring is not the word. The level of compassion and expertise I received from this office is beyond what words can say. The level of attention I received when I lost all hope. Paulette walked me through every step of the way. She prepared me for the unexpected but always reminded me of what mattered most. Angela, the paralegal, was always a phone call/email away. They worked in sync. Thank you to the office and all of her staff for putting professionalism into my case. I would absolutely recommend this firm to anyone who needed it.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
