    Consulted Law firm 2018-2020
My experience was with the Orlando firm. Mr. Francis and Ms. Smart, received my moms case in October 2018. They refuse to communicate although on numerous occasions of sending emails, phone calls and certified mail for more than 9 months her case was reviewed. I called the Florida Bar to file a complaint, but needed the attorney's name that was supposedly reviewing the case, so I sent an email requesting the attorney's name. Unfortunately a few days later Ms. Smart was calling and responding and Mr. Francis called me to tell me after 9 months of reviewing the case my mother had no case. Dr. Danelle Chambers performed the first hernia surgery on my mom Oct. 5, unfortunately due to an infection and not placing a drain my mother underwent a 2nd surgery within 10 days of the first surgery, Dr. Chambers indicated the 2nd surgery was also needed because 3 additional hernias appeared that wasnt taken care of 5 days before. Chambers lied to the family by saying she used a biomesh over MRSA. Her billing code indicated synthetic mesh, which should have never been put on top of MRSA. She left my mom to die. On numerous CT scans it indicated the mesh was crumpled, several ocassions the technician indicated concern, but D . Chambers refused to see my mother. Shands UF removed the synthetic mesh, the fistula caused by the botched surgery, caused anorexia in my mother couldnt eat for 4 months. Suffered two Cardiac arrest and haemoglobin dropped to 3.9. But family is told Dr. Chamber did nothing wrong. Mind you her own staff indicated in writing that these complication was caused by Dr. Chambers. Im left to conclude either nothing was done to review the case or they are in cohoots with the Dr. and hospital.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
