I am not going to waste your time with a sob story, just use another company that will stand behind what they write. This rating is not rectifiable, so please don't ask. If I could, I would select zero stars. Rest assured, I sat in their office and paid them for a document that they refuse to clarify. Why would I pay another lawyer to clarify a document that they are the author of? "In general, it is not illegal for the author of the mediation agreement to clarify the document and answer questions after a lawsuit has been started in Florida. This is because the mediation agreement is a contract between the parties, and the parties are free to interpret the contract as they see fit. If there is any ambiguity in the contract, the parties may need to go back to mediation or to court to have the contract interpreted. However, there are some situations in which it may be considered unethical for the author of the mediation agreement to clarify the document or answer questions after a lawsuit has been started in Florida. For example, if the author of the mediation agreement is also representing one of the parties in the lawsuit, it may be considered a conflict of interest for the author to clarify the document or answer questions in a way that benefits that party." They were not representing either party, I just needed some clarification and they refused under the pretense of it being, and I quote "a conflict of interest"...

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
