Christine and her paralegal Carmen made my son's step parent adoption go so smoothly and quickly even with Hurricane Sally in the middle. I am very very grateful to have found them to handle the long time coming adoption process. Carmen did all the heavy lifting with getting the proper documentation from my husband and I along with getting documents signed by the sperm donor. I am so thankful for her, as well as Christine for making a very stressful 7 years go away within 4 months. Obviously not every situation is the same but I highly recommend them to handle step parent adoptions!

Heed the warning of other negative reviews, this office will not care about actually winning your case and only care about billing you for it. Working with this office has been incredibly frustrating and a steady let down every step of the way. The consultation was full of false promises and lies in an effort to collect the retainer and then be completely ignored for a full month. Even when bringing up frustration in lack of effort they will respond by telling you it’s pointless to complain because will just bill you for reading the email. The other review claiming “money hungry” was spot on. I tried to even just get to meet someone to go over paperwork I wasn’t comfortable filling out myself and they set a time to be at the office. I showed up and nobody was there- it wasn’t until later in the day that I got a call with a list of excuses as to why I was ghosted. Which you will be completely ignored or ghosted a lot, and they will always have the type of excuse that makes you a bad person for speaking up. I did use this office for trial which was fueled by complete chaos and disarray as she was not remotely organized. The day before the trial they canceled the trial prep and said they would be ready for the trial the next day. She was not….at all. She was frantically high lighting and going through papers to try to keep up. So unorganized that she was even telling me to submit documents for evidence minutes before the judge walks in, I truly wish I was exaggerating. Miss cook even said herself that’s she’s overwhelmed which is entirely from her lack of time management and preparation. Then when the trial actually began her opening statement was her throwing her hands up and saying she hopes she did everything right because her assistant was out. What a great first impression from the judge right? Meanwhile the other side(McKenzie law firm) was very ready, completely organized, and focused. The McKenzie law firm did a great job and truly showed the difference between a professional and a phony. I am writing this review fully expecting a response or rebuttal claiming my review is inaccurate, which is whatever, but if I have successfully convinced one person to not retain this office, then I consider this review successful.

Christine and her office staff are quite simply, amazing! I can not say enough good things about them. Christine listened to me, made suggestions, communicated in a timely manner and most importantly, represented me in a way that resulted in a resolution that I felt was fair. Never once did I feel like I was being nickel-and-dimed to death and any concerns/questions were always addressed. My divorce had a legal ending that I felt good about... and how many can say that? If you hire Christine, you will receive a consummate professional and advocate who will fight for you. Adios to my ex-husband, but I'd like to keep Christine.;-)

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
