Attorney Information

Overview

Attorney D. Scott Wesley grew up in Hudson Valley, New York, and practices family law, estate planning, bankruptcy and landlord-tenant disputes. He graduated in 2016 with honors from Western Michigan University, Thomas Cooley Law School.

After graduating from California Polytechnic University in Southern California with a Bachelor's of Science degree in construction engineering, he worked as a contractor for IBM. He later opened two companies in northwest Washington Advantage Cable Television, LLC, which he sold in 1998 and Full Spectrum Development, Inc. which he started in 2000 and closed in 2009 before attending law school. His understanding of business and legal matters makes him a strong advocate for residents of Sarasota.

Mr. Wesley strongly believes in supporting the local community and provides legal advice to the citizens of the community who lack the resources to otherwise afford legal counsel. He interned at Legal Aid of Manasota throughout law school and continues to donate his time to that great organization. He also interned at the Department of Children's and Family Services in Sarasota and Bradenton during his last year in law school. Mr. Wesley has been honored by Legal Aid of Manasota with their Outstanding Service by a Young Lawyer Award for all the time he donated over the years.

When Mr. Wesley is not practicing law, he likes to spend time traveling, especially to Arizona, California, New York and Mexico. He also enjoys skiing, golf, tennis, hiking and biking. Mr. Wesley dabbles in cooking, reading, spending time with the family, his wife and dog.

I am so thankful to have found Scott Wesley, I knew before my consultation was even over that God had brought me to the right person. He is diligent, attentive and kind. He also remained in communication and had all the patience in the world for me throughout everything. I was very scared going into all of this but Scott took care of each and every one of my fears through his hard work and dedication to my case. Not once did he give me any reason to doubt his knowledge or skills and I am so thankful he represented me, I would highly recommend him for all your family law matters.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
