Hired Attorney 2019-2021I had the pleasure of retaining Mr. Kurpiers services to represent me in my defense for a DUI case in Polk County. Mr. Kurpiers brings his 30 years of experience to the table and to the courtroom and it shows beyond words can describe. I was absolutely blown away at the dedication, commitment, and experience he maintained throughout this 2 year ordeal and COVID-19 delays. In all honesty, Mr. Kurpiers and I had some disagreements prior to the trial regarding how my defense should be presented to the jury. I was wanting him to present certain things which I thought were pertinent to my defense. But I quickly realized that his advice is the reason why I hired him, as I am not a legal expert and he has extensive high-stakes experience. I adhered to his advice and to his aggressive style, and I can tell you that I was not disappointed. And looking back at our successful win, if we had gone with my ideas on how the defense should be brought forward, it would have resulted in a losing case. The trial was the most top-gear defense that one could present, shattering all beliefs I had prior about trials from watching the movies. Mr. Kurpiers successfully discredited every single witness the prosecution brought forward, including exposing the major holes in the prosecution’s own understanding of the law and putting the judge through great pressure in resolving the many objections Mr. Kurpiers meticulously brought up. Mr. Kurpiers also expertly put the prosecution into a position where they could have mistrial the case. This is a huge advantage for your defense if it is necessary, as well as allowing the defense to tie the prosecution’s hands. Mr. Kurpiers professionally choreographed the jury selection as well as curated a story to the jury which was designed to enlighten the jury on who I was as a person. This could only have been done by a seasoned attorney. What was more impressive is that after the trial and receiving a not-guilty verdict, all the bailiffs came forward to ask him for his business card to represent their associates. The judge came down from his bench to give Mr. Kurpiers accolades and inquire about where he was from and how he got that experience, as it was one of the best defenses he has seen in his courtroom. If you are serious about maintaining your innocence at trial, Mr. Kurpiers will not fail in presenting the best defense possible which will leave the courtroom shocked. In my opinion, he is one of the best criminal defense attorneys in Florida and will not disappoint. I fully entrust Mr. Kurpiers commitment in representing the best interests of his clients, and as such I will be referring some of my partners to Mr. Kurpiers as well as seeking out his counsel for any criminal or high-stakes civil suits I may encounter in the future.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
