This firm is the epitome of efficient professionalism. Their attention to detail and willingness to allow the client to set the tone of the process is second to none. I would recommend this team to anyone I care about who needs strong and measured representation.

Shiel Edlin was interested in my story and me as a person. Got to know not only myself, but revealed himself and his purpose in what he does for clients and everyone involved. His support staff marches to the same drummer, and through the process the client is valued, trust is built and maintained, and fairness is placed in high regard. A "d" might be added to Shiel's name because he shields clients from mistakes both emotional and fiscal - all the while seeking equitable resolution. Cannot send enough attributes his way.

Attorney Stephanie Wilson at Stern & Edlin represented me during my divorce. She strikes a wonderful balance of being kind and supportive while also extremely effective in driving the process. Her follow-up and communication are excellent. She guided me through a very challenging time and helped bring my divorce to an equitable resolution.

Getting a Divorce was the last thing on my mind. I loved my beautiful family and my husband until I discovered the unthinkable...My husband was having a long term affair and wanted a divorce. My world was turned upside down! Shiel Edlin and Stephanie Wilson helped me go through the most difficult time and really cared about me and my success of getting what I deserved financially and most importantly emotionally. I needed their guidance, professionalism and their Amazing reputation to let my husband know he was up for the "Fight of his Life". They gave me so much strength to get through this absolutely devastating time!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
