For my 2018 taxes I had a 1031 Exchange to defer capital gains on a commercial property. Somehow the documentation of the exchange was not included with the return and the return had the wrong address for my home so I never received notification of a problem. I wasn't aware of the problem until 2023 when I called the IRS for an unrelated matter. By then interest and penalties owed to the IRS had reached over $200,000! The amended return was submitted immediately. No word from the IRS until late 2025 when they were giving me one more chance to pay what was owed (over $300,000 at that time) before they went to collections. That is when I contacted The Peck Group. They were great. They handled everything and the IRS dropped all charges. Thank you Jason!
