Catherine really cares about what she does. She not only helped me, but she helped my child. My kiddo was her main concern during the whole process. She is extremely professional, and I couldn't have asked for a better attorney.

I originally started working with another area lawyer that was very unresponsive to my calls and emails. I eventually decided to go in another direction with my case and brought my business to Catherine. She not only kept in contact with me regualarly about my case, but she also took a very personal approach with it. I can't imagine a better lawyer.

She took my case very seriously and kept my child's welfare in her heart through the whole process. Bless this woman for all she did for my family. the situation wasn't ideal, but i don't know what i would have done without her.

I'm reading the review below and would hate to see Catherine's name smeared by a single negative review on this page. I'm sure this person's bad experience is relevant somehow, however, I would be remiss if I did not share my own experience. Divorce and custody battles are a time of complete and total crisis. Typically no one is a winner in these types of situations, especially considering that the children are losing significantly. This is Catherine's Credo. She is the only lawyer that I would trust to have my children's well-being in mind throughout the duration of a case. She took every part of my situation into consideration, and literally applied her many many years of experience to form the best possible outcome. Ex-husband's and ex-wives are typically at each other's throats in divorce, forsaking the child's best interest and many cases. Catherine not only sought the best result for my children, but she also put aside time to ensure that I was okay during the process. What kind of lawyer does something like that? I've had a brush with a handful of lawyers in my life, and they all have two things in common. They're looking for your money and they don't really care what you're going through. I can say, without hesitation, that Catherine has proven to be unlike any lawyer I've ever dealt with. If you're going into this situation thinking that you're going to get everything that you want, exactly the way you want it, you would be let down regardless of who you hire as an attorney. If you've ever been in any type of legal situation you should know that you will have to do some of the footwork, and your lawyer will not be able to do literally everything for you. What you're looking for is an assistant, and even then, you probably wouldn't be satisfied. If you are facing an unfortunate end to your marriage and you are prepared to do whatever it takes to ensure the best interest of your children, I highly recommend that you hire Catherine as your attorney. I did a lot of shopping for attorneys before I landed on Catherine, but what really sold me is that she was certain she could make the best possible outcome occur. She followed through. Don't waste your money on someone who doesn't care about you.

Ms. Ryan was referred to me by a former legal advisor. For the past two years she has done only 13 collective hours of work on my case and withheld the substantial retainer that I provided. I have never had to do more legwork, fact checking or following up and have never been more disappointed or frustrated with a professional service in my life. I feel lied to, cheated out of several thousand dollars, and robbed of my own time and energy. Now that I have asked to cease and desist all legal activity with this “lawyer”, and to be remitted the remaining funds so that I can seek other counsel, I am being completely ignored by her office. Do NOT hire Catherine Ryan.

Overcharges clients. Pads bills and charges clients at her rate of $350 per hour for the work her assistant does. Dresses unprofessionally for client meetings. Brings personal problems to her office and blames her staff for her own mistakes

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
