I honestly don't even know where to start. I was represented by Kayla Upchurch, Dorthy Sachs, Nechene Belyeu, and Mary Gegen. I had a very difficult contested divorce with relocation and custody issues. I am very pleased with the way things turned out. Things didn't always go my way during the litigation but Kayla and the my legal team were always by my side. Always reassuring me that every thing would work out. Kayla always went above and beyond and is VERY knowledgeable of the law. I know without her by my side I would not have had the successful outcome that I did. My team took on an extremely difficult case and encountered several issues that no one expected and few had ever seen. Kayla worked tirelessly to make sure that the truth was told and presented it perfectly. She stood by every single one of my requests and guided me through the entire lengthy process. Though we did face several difficult challenges along the way Ms. Upchurch her through research and dedicated time to my case provided us the pathway we needed to rise to victory. Not only was she able to defend us from unjust and not true accusations, her calm, reassuring, and empathetic demeanor offered emotional succor to myself and those I care about most. My children and I will be eternally grateful for having such a great legal team by our side. Kayla is a fairly new lawyer but the knowledge she has is amazing and she fights so hard. I know as a lawyer she will only continue to do great things for her clients in her future. She definitely deserves a BIG raise after my case, and I know she will go so far in her career. If I ever have any legal issues in future with custody, she will be the only person I call. Kayla and Dodi thank you SO MUCH for always giving me the strength to keep going everyday, never giving up, and most of all of giving me my life back, the only one I have ever known. I also wanted to say thank you to Helen, one of the receptionists at Meriweather and Tharp- I was going through the most challenging, darkest, difficult times in my life and Helen was always so sweet, kind, caring and helpful. I know I wasn't always one of the most easiest clients you have dealt with, for this I apologize, but thank you for always being sweet and understanding.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
