Overview
Edwin Marger began his legal career in Miami Beach, Florida in 1953. He moved to Georgia in 1971. He was admitted to practice law in all Florida, Georgia, and District of Columbia Federal and State courts. He was a member of the Bar of the U.S. Court of Claims and the U.S. Military Court of Appeals. He was also admitted to the bar of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, & 11th circuits and the United States Supreme Court.
During his legal career, he tried hundreds of jury and bench trials in various states and countries.
The courtroom was his stage and his forte. His practice took him to over 25 states in and around the world. The stories of his courtroom talent are legendary. He represented gun dealers and murderers, traveled to Haiti, always wanting to be in the center of change. Ed’s cases were numerous and many were infamous. He began practicing law in 1953 and represented dictators (Duvallier in Haiti also known as “Papa Doc” and his son “baby Doc”), countries (Abacos Island when it did not want to cede from Great Britain), alleged murderers, (the shooter who killed Sara Tokars), smugglers, alleged criminals, and many public officials formally and behind the scenes.
He was a fervent advocate of the little guy, he was open to people of all faiths, ethnicity, color and culture. Ed never turned anyone away whether they needed his advice, comradery or a meal. His motivating force was to keep practicing law and inhabiting the courthouses where he felt alive and did so much to help us all. Ed Marger was the leading man in his play, and we are all honored to have been the supporting cast on his stage. He did it his way.
Ed was highly respected by the judiciary and was an advocate for young lawyers, giving them inspiration, propelling them forward to their own practices and the judiciary. One of those young lawyers was Cortney Stuart. Cortney was lucky enough to practice with Ed for six years. Ed was Cortney’s mentor and friend. It was truly a gift to be able to ask him questions and learn from his years of legal experience. Ed was proud to be a part of Marger Stuart Law. He wanted his values and professionalism to continue, and so it shall at Marger Stuart Law.
Edwin Marger passed away on November 13th, 2017.
