"Better than I ever could have hoped for. 5.0 stars Posted by Jamie October 12, 2017 A few years after returning to my native North Georgia following my service in Iraq, I found myself falsely accused of a crime that could put me in prison for life. I lost my job. I was being attacked on social media by people I thought were my friends. I was being prosecuted by one of the toughest District Attorney offices in Georgia. I feared a life spent behind bars for a crime I did not commit. As a father, I feared the prospect of my children growing up without me. I saw my entire life collapsing around me. As a former military policeman, I knew I needed the best attorney I could find. After interviewing several lawyers, I knew John Steakley was the one for me. His experience over two decades as both a prosecutor and defense attorney was exactly what I needed. Sixteen months and a 7-day jury trial later, I was a free man. Hiring John Steakley was the best decision I ever made and best money I ever spent. He gave me back my life and gave my children back their father. He fought for me, and he will fight for you."

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2019Excellent Attorney 5.0 stars Posted by anonymous April 23, 2019 Mr. Steakley represented me in a felony case just a couple of weeks ago. He handled himself very professionally in the courtroom, but more imortantly, he and his staff were available to me pretty much around the clock. Every call, every email and even every text were answered no matter the time of day or night. I didn't feel alone during a very critical time. Thank you to the Steakley Law Firm!

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2018Very professional 5.0 stars Posted by anonymous December 17, 2018 I hired Mr. Steakley at the end of July when I found out I had a warrant out for my arrest due to me missing my 1st arraignment by accident. As soon as I hired Mr. Steakley he quickly came up with a resolution for both my case & my new warrant. He worked tediously to resolve my situation and within the next 2-3months had my case closed and ultimately got my felony charge dropped to a misdemeanor. I also learned a lot of legal stuff in the process. I would definitely recommend Mr. Steakley to anyone who’s gotten in trouble with the law. He’s a lifesaver.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
